Vision

  1. Centre of Excellence and Strategic Importance: VLSI / Microelectronics Design are often considered to be the core of electronics design or enabler of electronics revolution. Given the fact that by year 2020 India’s semiconductor import bill is expected to increase to 55 billion USD, 21% of overall electronics import; Microelectronics & VLSI Design group of IISc, which consist of faculties from ESE and ECE envision to become a centre of excellence in VLSI Design and Microelectronics Design to cater to the nation’s scientific demands and serve as centre of national and strategic importance. This can be achieved by (i) bringing world class faculties and facilities, (ii) state of the art teaching, and (iii) leadership in core and multidisciplinary research with global impact.
  2. Key research areas: Our selection of research areas, which are divided into following two categories, are based on a holistic view of what all is involved in the field called “Microelectronics and VLSI Design” (see chart enclosed in the end) and what is of future interest for both fundamental science and semiconductor industry.
